Syria Experiences Hot Summer Weather with Hazy Conditions
Syria is experiencing a period of intense summer heat, with temperatures across the country remaining between two to four degrees Celsius above their typical annual averages. While the National Meteorological Center noted a slight decline in temperatures today, particularly in the central, southern, and coastal regions, the overall climate remains characterized by hot to very hot conditions throughout the day.
The eastern regions, including the Al-Jazeera area, are experiencing the most significant heat. Meteorological data indicates that these parts of the country, along with the Badia and select locations in the north and south, are also seeing hazy weather conditions. The general atmosphere across the country is described as clear to partly cloudy.
As daylight fades, the temperature is expected to become generally moderate, with more comfortable conditions settling over mountainous areas. However, humidity levels remain elevated across the western, southern, and northwestern parts of the country. There is also a possibility of light fog forming in parts of the central and coastal regions during the night.
Wind patterns are currently shifting, with westerly to northwesterly winds prevailing over the eastern regions and the Badia. In other parts of the country, winds are generally blowing from the west to the southwest, maintaining a light to moderate intensity. These winds are expected to pick up speed during the afternoon and evening hours, with gusts potentially exceeding 55 kilometers per hour. This increase in wind activity is likely to result in the stirring of dust and sand in various inland regions. Despite the wind, maritime conditions remain stable, with the sea characterized by light waves.
Provincial temperature readings underscore the breadth of the current heat wave. In the east, temperatures are particularly high, with Deir ez-Zor reaching a high of 44 degrees Celsius and Al-Hasakah seeing highs of 43 degrees. Northern and central cities are also feeling the heat, with Aleppo reaching 39 degrees and Hama recording 39 degrees. Damascus remains warm with a high of 37 degrees, while coastal cities such as Latakia and Tartus are seeing highs of 32 and 31 degrees respectively. These elevated temperatures continue to affect daily life, agricultural conditions, and infrastructure across the nation as the country contends with this sustained period of hot weather.
