Syria and Saudi Arabia Discuss Export Development and Digital Transition

Syrian Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, Nidal Al-Shaar, held a meeting with representatives from the Saudi Export Development Authority to discuss strengthening bilateral economic cooperation and advancing export capabilities in both countries.

The discussions focused on establishing a sustainable framework for collaboration between Damascus and Riyadh. Both sides explored methods for exchanging institutional and technical expertise, with a particular emphasis on drafting a memorandum of understanding (MoU). This agreement aims to enhance the efficiency of export systems and simplify the procedures necessary to ensure that Syrian and Saudi products reach global markets more effectively.

During the meeting, the participants reviewed existing export opportunities within both nations. They underscored the importance of promoting national products and cultivating robust strategic partnerships between the business sectors of both countries. These initiatives are designed to increase the volume of trade exchange and create new avenues for comprehensive economic cooperation.

In another key area of discussion, the two sides addressed the topic of digital transformation. The Syrian delegation expressed a specific interest in leveraging Saudi Arabia’s advanced experience in digitization and administrative simplification, with a particular focus on the model implemented by the Saudi company ‘Elm.’

Both parties agreed to organize specialized working sessions to develop a strategic plan for digital transformation and to modernize procedures within the Syrian Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade. This effort is aligned with modern trends aimed at improving the efficiency of government operations.

This recent engagement follows previous initiatives in this context. A delegation from the Syrian Local Production and Export Support Authority met with its Saudi counterpart last January on the sidelines of the ‘Gulfood 2026’ exhibition held in Dubai. This ongoing communication aims to bolster cooperation in export development and the exchange of technical and administrative expertise. These efforts serve to support national companies in both countries, facilitating their expansion into domestic and international markets as part of a broader commitment to enhancing economic integration between Syria and Saudi Arabia.
