Syria and Brazil Explore Economic and Trade Cooperation

The Syrian Federation of Chambers of Commerce has held high-level virtual discussions with the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce to explore avenues for strengthening economic and trade cooperation between the two nations. The talks, which represent a concerted effort to broaden Syria’s international commercial network, focused on establishing a sustainable institutional framework for future partnerships.
Anas Al-Bou, a member of the Board of Directors of the Syrian Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Head of the External Relations Committee, led the Syrian side. The meeting included the participation of Amer Al-Homsi, Director-General of the Federation, and was hosted by Mohamed Mourad, Secretary-General of the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, alongside other chamber officials.
The discussions primarily centered on the upcoming Brazil-Arab Countries Economic Forum, scheduled to take place in São Paulo at the end of August. Both parties emphasized the importance of a robust Syrian private sector presence at the event, viewing it as a critical platform to showcase the investment opportunities currently available in Syria. Such participation is expected to foster direct engagement between the Syrian business community and their counterparts in Brazil and the wider Arab region.
A major highlight of the meeting was the potential drafting of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two chambers. This agreement is intended to create a formal mechanism for the exchange of data, professional expertise, and the facilitation of trade and investment partnerships. Both sides expressed optimism that this structure would streamline commercial interactions and lower barriers to entry for business leaders in both countries.
Looking toward the near future, the delegations finalized preliminary arrangements for an upcoming visit by representatives from the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce to Syria, which is slated for October. The visit is designed to provide the Brazilian delegation with firsthand insight into the current landscape of the Syrian economy. By facilitating direct interaction with local business leaders, the organizers hope to clear the path for launching concrete joint economic ventures.
Al-Bou underscored that these efforts are part of a broader strategy aimed at elevating Syria’s profile in international economic arenas. By systematically expanding relationships with regional and international trade institutions, the Federation aims to open new export markets for Syrian products and attract foreign capital. These partnerships are considered essential components of the ongoing efforts to revitalize the private sector and contribute to the country’s broader economic recovery and growth objectives. The Federation of Chambers of Commerce continues to prioritize these international outreach programs to ensure that Syrian businesses remain integrated within the global trade ecosystem.
