Syria and Azerbaijan Hold High-Level Talks to Bolster Cooperation
A high-level Syrian delegation held discussions in Baku with Azerbaijani officials to explore avenues for expanding bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation across key strategic sectors. The meetings, which focused on the economy, trade, investment, energy, and infrastructure, took place on the sidelines of the Second Azerbaijan International Investment Forum.
The Syrian Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade led the delegation, meeting with Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Samir Sharifov. During these discussions, both sides reviewed the development of relations between Damascus and Baku, noting that ongoing communication at the leadership level has effectively strengthened political dialogue and established new channels for cooperation.
According to a statement released by the Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade, a central topic of the dialogue was the potential supply of Azerbaijani natural gas to Syria. The two parties discussed this as a practical model to advance the economic partnership between the nations.
Beyond energy and trade, the officials addressed the development of cooperation in the infrastructure sector. A primary focus was placed on humanitarian initiatives, particularly a project supported by the Azerbaijani government aimed at the rehabilitation of Syria’s educational infrastructure. These efforts reflect a shared commitment to fostering deeper partnerships across economic, investment, and humanitarian domains.
The Syrian delegation’s participation in the Second Azerbaijan International Investment Forum provided a platform to engage with government officials, international investors, and representatives from global financial institutions and corporations. The forum serves as a venue for exchanging investment opportunities and exploring new collaborative horizons.
Upon his arrival in Baku, the Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade emphasized that the visit’s agenda was centered on advancing mutual interests and developing partnerships to support the Syrian economy, particularly within the energy and infrastructure sectors, as part of the growing bilateral ties between the two countries.
