Social Initiative Hosts Mass Wedding in At-Tall, Rif Dimashq

The city of At-Tall, located in the Rif Dimashq countryside, hosted a community event on Tuesday featuring a mass wedding ceremony for 40 young couples. The initiative was designed to assist Syrian youth in establishing their families, particularly as economic conditions, rising housing costs, and the expenses associated with furnishing a home have become significant barriers for many.

Dr. Kamal Arnous, chairman of the En’ash al-Faqir (Poverty Relief) Association, which sponsored the project, explained that the initiative extended beyond the wedding day itself. Participants underwent preparatory training courses to ensure they were well-equipped for the responsibilities of a stable marital life. Following these sessions, the association provided the necessary support to facilitate the marriage ceremonies.

The event drew significant community engagement, with approximately 10,000 local residents and visitors attending the luncheon hosted by the association. The large turnout highlighted the spirit of social solidarity present in the region.

Issa Sanjab, one of the grooms participating in the mass wedding, spoke to the importance of such efforts in alleviating the financial burden on young people, especially those with limited income. He noted that these initiatives offer a sense of hope to many who face economic challenges that would otherwise prevent them from marrying and starting a family.

This initiative serves to revive traditional social customs that were once common in the towns of the Damascus countryside. It underscores the vital role played by local initiatives and civil society organizations in fostering community solidarity and easing the pressures on citizens amidst current challenges. The project comes at a time of increasing need for youth support, with local communities welcoming such efforts for their contribution to maintaining social cohesion.
