Road Rehabilitation Project Launched in Ein Tarma, Rif Dimashq

Rehabilitation and expansion works have officially commenced on the ‘Martyrs’ Road’ (Tareeq al-Shuhada) in the town of Ein Tarma, located in the Rif Dimashq countryside. The project is being carried out as part of the ‘Our Countryside is More Beautiful’ campaign, an initiative led by the Rif Dimashq Governorate in collaboration with the Directorate of Technical Services and the local municipal council, with support from the local community.

The project involves the application of a new asphalt layer to this vital route, which spans from the Harmala area in the north of the town to the main road, passing by the local medical complex. Preparatory work, including edge trimming and the installation of curbs on both sides of the road, has already been completed to pave the way for the asphalt paving operations.

Yassin Shehadeh, Deputy Mayor of Ein Tarma, highlighted the strategic importance of the route, describing it as a primary artery that connects the northern and southern parts of the town. According to Shehadeh, the road is designated to become a main transit route for public transport. This shift is expected to play a direct role in organizing traffic flow and alleviating congestion on other secondary roads within the town.

Shehadeh further noted that these efforts are part of a broader plan by the local council to implement a series of service-oriented projects. These include further road expansions and the construction of additional sidewalks, which are intended to improve local services and mitigate issues such as the accumulation of sediment and waste on streets, particularly during the winter months.

Amna Al-Zein, an engineer with the Rif Dimashq Directorate of Technical Services, explained the technical scope of the project. She stated that the work includes milling the old asphalt layer and applying a new, 5-centimeter-thick wearing course to ensure the road’s quality and its ability to withstand ongoing traffic demands.

Local residents have expressed support for the service improvements. Khaled Omar Badawi, a resident of the area, emphasized that the paving and cleaning initiatives contribute effectively to enhancing the environmental and service conditions within Ein Tarma.

The ‘Our Countryside is More Beautiful’ campaign is part of an ongoing series of development, service, and environmental initiatives executed by the Rif Dimashq Governorate. These projects are aimed at developing infrastructure, improving the urban landscape, and meeting the fundamental needs of citizens as part of a sustained effort to enhance public services across the governorate’s cities and towns.
