Rif Dimashq Authorities Issue 357 Violations in Market Crackdown
The Directorate of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection in Rif Dimashq has intensified its regulatory activities, conducting an extensive inspection campaign across the governorate’s markets from September 10 to 16. The operation resulted in the issuance of 357 violation reports against commercial entities and facilities found to be non-compliant with current regulations.
Abd al-Salam Khaled, Director of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection in Rif Dimashq, stated that regulatory teams inspected 1,161 commercial businesses and 62 factories distributed throughout the various regions of the governorate during this period. According to Khaled, the documented violations included failure to adhere to official pricing, lack of clear price labeling for consumers, and the absence of formal invoices for commercial transactions.
In addition to pricing and documentation issues, the inspection campaign addressed concerns regarding health and safety standards. Violations were also issued for non-compliance with quality controls and the handling of food products, as part of the directorate’s broader initiative to regulate market conditions and protect citizens from fraud, price manipulation, and the distribution of substandard goods.
As part of the directorate’s strategy to strengthen regulatory oversight across the governorate, Khaled noted that 120 field patrols were deployed during the same week to ensure comprehensive coverage of all commercial zones and facilities. These patrols focused not only on routine inspections but also on direct responses to consumer reports. During the week, authorities successfully addressed 21 complaints filed by residents regarding potential commercial violations.
This recent campaign represents a continuation of the directorate’s ongoing regulatory efforts. In the preceding week, from September 3 to 9, authorities issued 358 violation reports. This trend highlights the consistent pace of oversight maintained by the relevant authorities to monitor the performance of commercial entities in Rif Dimashq and to ensure full compliance with the country’s prevailing trade and consumer protection laws.
