Raqqa Rural Cleanup: Trench Removal Efforts Underway

The Technical Services Center in the Tel Abyad region, in coordination with the Ain Issa Town Council, has launched an extensive field campaign to remove earth mounds and trenches left behind by previous military operations in the village of Al-Heisha.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance public safety, improve local services, and restore the land for civilian use and agricultural productivity.
Jassem al-Ghadban, head of the Ain Issa Town Council, explained that the campaign extends beyond the village of Al-Heisha. The work also includes the removal of unauthorized waste dumps, the leveling of remaining trenches and embankments, and a project to expand the southern entrance of the town of Ain Issa by 1.5 kilometers.
Al-Ghadban noted that the project aims to improve the visual appearance of the area and eliminate rainwater pools that have historically served as breeding grounds for disease, particularly Leishmaniasis.
Khalil al-Muhammad, head of the Technical Services Center in Tel Abyad, stated that these operations follow a comprehensive cleaning campaign recently carried out in the town. He confirmed that work teams are currently clearing mounds and trenches over a distance of up to ten kilometers.
Looking ahead, Al-Ghadban indicated that efforts will continue to cover other villages, including Al-Sharakrak and Al-Fatisa. In these areas, trenches located near residential properties pose a significant risk, necessitating urgent infilling before the onset of winter to ensure the safety of the local population.
Residents of Al-Heisha, located approximately 50 kilometers north of Raqqa, expressed their strong support for the initiative. Locals noted that these efforts are helping to restore the aesthetic and vitality of the village. For many, the removal of these barriers is a welcome change, as the trenches and mounds had previously marked former front lines that directly restricted their daily movement and activity for years.
