Olive Pressing Season Begins in Idlib Countryside

The annual olive pressing season has officially commenced in the Idlib countryside, as local olive mills have begun receiving crops from farmers to initiate the oil extraction process. This time of year serves as a critical juncture for the region, with the olive harvest acting as a fundamental pillar of the local agricultural and economic landscape.

Currently, there is a marked increase in activity as farmers transport their harvests from orchards to the various mills scattered throughout the Idlib countryside. Farmers are actively engaged in harvesting and delivering their produce, which then undergoes a series of technical stages to ensure efficient oil extraction. This process holds significant importance for the local population, as a broad segment of residents relies on olive crops as a primary source of income. Furthermore, the oil itself is a staple element of the Syrian diet.

Olive mills across the Idlib countryside are operating at high capacity, mobilizing both technical resources and personnel to manage the incoming volume of crops. This year’s season arrives amidst agricultural and economic conditions that present ongoing challenges for farmers, who are working diligently to secure their harvests and transition them through to final production. The production process involves careful sorting and cleaning of the fruit, followed by extraction and filtration to produce the final olive oil product.

Farmers continue to collect their crops with hopes of achieving a successful yield that will satisfy local demand. The annual olive harvest and pressing season remains a traditional practice that brings families and farmers together in the fields. Once the harvest is complete, the produce is transferred to the mills, which are operating at full capacity during this period to accommodate the high demand for pressing fresh crops.
