Syrian Health Ministry Expands Mental Health and Support Services

As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare nationwide, the Syrian Ministry of Health has announced a significant expansion of its specialized mental health and psychological support services. This initiative is a direct response to the increasing demand for care to address psychological disorders, which have emerged as a primary health challenge following the long-standing conflict and the resulting accumulation of daily living pressures faced by citizens.
To facilitate the delivery of these services, the Ministry is leveraging an extensive network of healthcare facilities distributed across various Syrian governorates. Mental health support is now provided through 764 primary healthcare centers located in both urban and rural areas. These facilities serve as the first line of defense in delivering essential psychological support and providing necessary consultations to individuals suffering from the repercussions of various psychological crises.
In addition to the primary care network, the Ministry offers a more specialized level of treatment through three dedicated mental health hospitals. These facilities are equipped to manage cases that require precise clinical diagnosis or intensive therapeutic programs. By utilizing this geographical and service-based distribution, the Ministry aims to ensure that the widest possible segment of the population has access to mental health services, thereby mitigating the psychological burden caused by the ongoing economic and social challenges.
According to current data, the Syrian Ministry of Health is prioritizing the continued expansion and development of these services. The goal is to ensure the integration of medical care with psychological support as part of a national strategy. This strategy seeks to improve the quality of health and life for citizens across all Syrian regions by providing medical solutions for disorders related to stress and the psychological disturbances stemming from the exceptional conditions the country has experienced.
