National Clay Target Shooting Championship Kicks Off in Rif Dimashq

The Saidnaya Shooting and Equestrian Club in Rif Dimashq has officially launched the National Clay Target Shooting Championship. The two-day event has drawn approximately 30 shooters from various Syrian provinces, all competing for the title. The championship is part of a broader effort to promote the sport of shooting and expand its participant base across the country.
Elias Kabbeh, director of the Saidnaya Shooting and Equestrian Club, stated that this marks the second consecutive year the club has hosted the national tournament. The competition is divided into two primary categories: men and juniors. According to Kabbeh, the club places a special emphasis on attracting young talent and refining their technical skills through ongoing training programs. He noted that preparations for the event spanned an entire month to ensure optimal conditions for all participants, while expressing the club’s ambition to secure increased support for such individual sports.
Marwan Saad, an international referee and head of the tournament’s judging committee, explained that the competition follows a precise technical system. The championship is structured into two stages, with competitors aiming at 15 targets on the first day and another 15 on the second. Saad highlighted the diversity of the field, which brings together both experienced champions and promising junior shooters, adding a high level of competitiveness to the event.
Samer Al-Qudsi, a member of the Shooting Federation, noted that the technical and officiating standards of the championship show significant progress. He emphasized that holding the competition over two days provides shooters with the necessary opportunity to focus and perform at their best.
Participant Ahmed Abdullah Barqawi spoke to the challenging nature of clay target shooting, explaining that it requires intense mental focus and precise technical skills to coordinate movement and vision during aiming. Barqawi stressed that the regular provision of training resources is vital for shooters, as it directly contributes to their technical development and encourages consistent participation in local championships.
Clay target shooting relies on hitting moving targets with high accuracy and rapid response times. The sport requires a delicate balance of physical skill and mental composure and is one of the disciplines the Syrian Shooting Federation aims to promote and develop across all provinces.
