Latakia: Water Crossing on Nahr al-Arab Restored to Support Agriculture

Latakia Governorate has reached a new milestone in its ongoing efforts to rehabilitate essential service and agricultural infrastructure. The water crossing located on the Nahr al-Arab has been officially returned to service following a comprehensive period of maintenance and repair.

The facility had been out of operation for many years due to technical failures, which previously hindered its capacity to support the local agricultural sector. The successful restoration follows a series of necessary technical interventions designed to ensure the facility regains its full operational efficiency.

The reopening of the crossing is considered a vital development for the region’s agricultural community, as the facility plays a central role in managing the irrigation network and supplying water to surrounding fields. According to official data, the rehabilitation of this infrastructure will directly enhance agricultural conditions by providing consistent irrigation water to more than 1,000 hectares of land in the vicinity of Nahr al-Arab.

This project is part of broader initiatives led by the relevant authorities in Latakia to improve water infrastructure. The objective is to promote the sustainability of agricultural production and resolve the long-standing obstacles that farmers faced throughout the years the crossing remained out of service.

The return of this facility to active duty is expected to have a positive impact on crop yields in the targeted area. By providing farmers with the ability to irrigate their lands on a regular and stable basis, the restoration serves as a significant boost to the local agricultural economy across the governorate.
