Daraa Launches Cleanup and Reforestation Campaigns

Daraa province launched two simultaneous campaigns on Thursday aimed at improving the local environmental and service landscape while expanding green spaces within the city. These initiatives are part of a collaborative development effort involving government institutions and the local community to foster a sense of environmental responsibility.

The cleanup effort focused on the Daraa al-Balad area, where comprehensive street and sidewalk cleaning operations were carried out. The work spanned the area surrounding the Abu Bakr al-Siddiq Mosque to the al-Mansour Mosque. Simultaneously, a reforestation campaign was held at the Bahar School, where various forestry trees were planted. This initiative seeks to increase vegetation and actively involve students in environmental activities to heighten their awareness.

Several government agencies participated in these activities, including the Directorates of Agriculture, Environment, and Education, as well as the Daraa City Council and the Directorate of Technical Services. Ahed al-Zoubi, Director of Agriculture in Daraa, stated that the directorate provided the necessary saplings, personnel, and water tankers. He emphasized that the department is committed to ensuring the trees are watered and their growth is monitored in coordination with teaching staff and the local community. He further highlighted the importance of instilling an appreciation for the environment among students.

Mohammad al-Qutaifan, official for the Executive Office of the City Councils and Environment Directorates sector, explained that these campaigns coincide with the events of National Environment Day. He confirmed that such efforts will continue in other neighborhoods across the city through coordination between relevant authorities. Al-Qutaifan noted that the sanitation sector is a priority within recovery plans, with ongoing efforts to equip city councils and municipalities with additional machinery and sufficient human resources to improve the quality of services provided to citizens.

City residents expressed their support for these initiatives through their active participation. Local resident Imad al-Masalma stressed the importance of sustaining these campaigns, noting that maintaining the public environment, sanitation, and restoring the city’s green cover is a shared responsibility between institutions and citizens alike. These activities serve as an opportunity to strengthen collaborative work in tree planting and park rehabilitation, contributing positively to the city’s urban and environmental appearance.
