Damascus Hosts Workshop on Electrical Standards and Safety
The Syrian Arab Organization for Standardization and Metrology (SASMO), in collaboration with the Saudi company Al-Fanar, recently held a specialized training workshop in Damascus. The event was part of the organization’s ongoing efforts to enhance technical requirements and standards for electrical components, while establishing mechanisms to verify their compliance with international specifications. The initiative aims to support the development of national products and improve their performance in both local and regional markets.
According to an official statement, the workshop, held at the organization’s headquarters, provided an in-depth examination of performance requirements, testing methods, and compliance verification. Discussions also addressed the technical aspects involved in the practical application of approved standards to ensure safety and quality.
Yasser Aliwi, Director General of the organization, emphasized the importance of strengthening partnerships with the industrial sector. He stressed the necessity of exchanging technical expertise to bolster national products and increase their competitive edge. Aliwi noted that direct cooperation with industrial firms is a priority for the organization, as the private sector serves as a key partner in implementing standardization and fostering a culture of quality. He further highlighted the organization’s commitment to equipping manufacturers with the technical knowledge required to elevate compliance with approved standards.
The event facilitated significant interaction and knowledge sharing between the organization’s technical staff and representatives from Al-Fanar. This engagement is expected to pave the way for broader technical cooperation, supporting efforts to advance the national industry and ensure the safety of electrical products circulating in the market.
This workshop follows a visit by a Syrian delegation, led by the Director General of the organization, to Al-Fanar’s headquarters in Saudi Arabia this past May. During that visit, the delegation reviewed modern manufacturing technologies and production stages for electrical and engineering products, all of which align with international standards.
Al-Fanar is a prominent company specializing in the manufacturing and trade of structural electrical products, covering low, medium, and high voltage ranges. The company provides integrated engineering solutions for traditional and renewable energy projects, power plants, and electricity transmission and distribution networks. Additionally, it offers testing, calibration, and engineering consulting services, providing Syrian personnel with valuable insights into the latest best practices currently utilized within this vital sector.
