Damascus Hosts Medical Conferences on Advanced Surgical Technologies

The National Center for Visual Arts in Damascus has launched an exhibition accompanying the 28th Scientific Conference of the Syrian Society of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery. The event is being held in conjunction with the inaugural conference of the Syrian Society of Audiology and Speech Sciences.

The exhibition features 45 specialized companies showcasing the latest medical technologies and equipment in the fields of surgery and audiology. Many of these innovations are being introduced to the Syrian market for the first time. The scientific and technical event aims to modernize therapeutic services through the implementation of advanced solutions, including laser surgery, coblation technology, 3D microscopy, and ultrasonic cutting devices. These advancements are designed to enhance surgical precision and accelerate patient recovery times.

In the field of audiology, Global Audiology showcased the “Vivia” hearing aid, which is powered by artificial intelligence. The device is capable of analyzing the surrounding sound environment in fractions of a second, purifying audio to prioritize essential sounds—such as human speech and alerts—while filtering out background noise. Hearing specialists noted that this technology supports all age groups, offering significant benefits for children by helping to develop their speech memory and facilitating communication.

Dr. Ayman Al-Kayyal, Dean of the Faculty of Human Medicine at Al-Andalus University, emphasized the significance of technologies such as coblation surgery. This method allows for precise surgical procedures, particularly in cases involving tonsils, turbinates, and vocal cord tumors, while minimizing bleeding and pain. These benefits support the “day surgery” model, which enables patients to leave the hospital within a few hours of their procedure.

Regarding medical engineering, experts explained that 3D microscopes provide physicians with superior visualization and up to 40x magnification. This capability facilitates complex operations in the middle ear and rhinoplasty, in addition to the “Piezosurgery” device, which is designed for precise bone cutting while protecting surrounding nerves and blood vessels.

The three-day event brings together more than 450 doctors and specialists. The scientific program includes eight discussion panels and over 20 specialized lectures. The conference serves as a national scientific platform aimed at keeping pace with global developments in otolaryngology and audiology, with a focus on implementing these modern techniques in hospitals across all Syrian governorates.
