Civilians Injured in Armed Clashes in As-Suwayda

As-Suwayda witnessed a period of heightened security tension on Thursday following a series of violent clashes between outlaw groups. The confrontation resulted in injuries among civilians who were present in the affected areas.
According to the As-Suwayda Media Directorate, initial reports indicate that the fighting spread across several key locations within the city. The clashes originated in the Al-Maqous neighborhood on the eastern side of the city before expanding to the city’s central market and the Al-Mashwarab neighborhood. Among the wounded was a lawyer, an incident that has sparked widespread concern among local residents regarding the use of firearms in heavily populated areas.
Local sources provided details on the origin of the incident, explaining that what began as a personal disagreement quickly escalated into an armed conflict. The dispute involved individuals from the Abu Sarhan family and others from the Radwan family, centering on a fuel-selling station. Sources reported that members of the first party initiated gunfire at an individual from the second family. Following this, the group seized the victim’s vehicle, which triggered a direct armed escalation between the two sides.
Despite the private nature of the initial disagreement, the subsequent violence caused significant alarm for the local population and resulted in several civilians sustaining injuries of varying severity. The wounded were transported to medical facilities to receive necessary treatment. This incident occurs at a time when relevant authorities are working to curb lawlessness and pursue groups that utilize weapons in private disputes, which poses a significant threat to the safety and security of the city’s residents.
City neighborhoods remain in a state of apprehension following these field developments. There are ongoing public demands for the state to assert its authority, end the armed chaos caused by such groups, and ensure that incidents of this nature—which disrupt daily life in markets and residential areas—do not recur.
This event is part of a broader trend of security incidents in As-Suwayda province, where personal disputes frequently escalate into the use of firearms. This pattern has prompted calls for more stringent measures to address such phenomena, which continue to disturb the peace, security, and stability of the city’s inhabitants.
