Child Dies After Falling Into Well in Rural Al-Hasakah

The Directorate of Emergency and Disaster Management in Al-Hasakah province recovered the body of a child on Wednesday following a fall into a well in the village of Umayyah, located near Tal Hamis in the northeastern countryside of the province.
The recovery operation concluded after intensive efforts by rescue teams that lasted for more than 10 consecutive hours, starting from the time the incident occurred on Tuesday evening.
Abdul Halim Shihab, director of the directorate, stated that specialized teams responded immediately to the report. The Al-Hasakah Emergency and Disaster Management teams were supported by specialized units from Aleppo and Raqqa provinces to assist in the complex rescue mission.
Shihab explained that rescue teams utilized a specialized camera lowered into the well, which measures approximately 100 meters in depth, to locate the child. The victim was found stuck at a depth of over 60 meters. Most of the child’s body was submerged in water, and there were no signs of life, confirming that the child had passed away before the body was recovered in the early hours of Wednesday morning and handed over to his family.
Field teams took all necessary measures to reach and rescue the child, including pumping oxygen into the well to create suitable conditions for the operation. However, the nature of the incident and the conditions inside the well prevented a live rescue.
In a separate incident on Tuesday, a similar event occurred in the town of Hazzah in the Eastern Ghouta region of Rif Dimashq. In that case, Civil Defense teams, in cooperation with local residents, successfully rescued a 10-year-old child after he fell into a well. The child was subsequently transported to a hospital to receive the necessary medical care.
