Al-Andalus University Hosts International Medical and Engineering Forums
Al-Andalus University for Medical Sciences in Tartus officially inaugurated two major scientific events on Monday, marking a significant step for academic and professional collaboration within the Syrian medical and technical sectors. The university is currently hosting the First International Scientific Conference for the Faculty of Human Medicine and the Second International Scientific Conference for the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering.
The forums, which drew participation from prominent academic figures and local officials, aim to bridge the gap between theoretical research and practical application. Among those in attendance were the Deputy Governor of Tartus, Sami Al-Zakh, and the President of Tartus University, Dr. Adib Barhoum, underscoring the institutional support for advancing higher education and research standards in the region.
Organizers stated that the primary objective of these dual conferences is to bolster the national research landscape by fostering academic exchange and facilitating the sharing of expertise among researchers. By creating a collaborative environment, the university intends to help local professionals and students keep pace with rapid international advancements in the fields of medicine and biomedical engineering. The gatherings are expected to provide a platform for developing specialized practical applications that address current challenges in the health and engineering sectors.
This initiative follows a pattern of academic and technical cooperation at the university. Earlier this year, in April, the institution collaborated with the Syrian Atomic Energy Commission to host a “Medical Scientific Day.” That event focused specifically on the latest developments in nuclear medicine, including the use of radioactive isotopes and radiopharmaceuticals in clinical diagnostics and therapy. Discussions during that session also covered the complexities of quality control for medical generators and the enforcement of chemical safety standards, reflecting a broader commitment to modernizing the Syrian medical infrastructure.
As the current conferences proceed, stakeholders anticipate that the exchange of knowledge will yield new opportunities for joint projects between academic institutions and medical practitioners.
