Al-Hasakah Official Condemns Civil Unrest in Ras al-Ayn
The Deputy Governor of Al-Hasakah, Ahmed al-Hilali, has issued a formal condemnation of the recent rioting, acts of vandalism, and civil unrest observed in the Ras al-Ayn area. In a statement released to the local media, al-Hilali described these actions as unacceptable, emphasizing that they threaten the peace and stability of the region at a time when the state is working toward facilitating the return of displaced citizens.
Al-Hilali underscored that the right of Syrian citizens to return to their homes and lands is a fundamental right guaranteed by the state. He insisted that such returns must be conducted in a safe and dignified manner, free from the chaos, discrimination, or social exclusion that has recently marred the security situation in parts of the province.
Providing an update on the progress of reconstruction and stabilization efforts, the official reported that more than 400 families have successfully returned to the countryside surrounding Ras al-Ayn. This movement followed the implementation of necessary security measures, including intensive demining operations, the removal of war remnants, and the reopening of critical transport routes. Al-Hilali confirmed that these surveys and cleanup operations remain ongoing across several districts to ensure the safety of further returnees.
Highlighting the importance of social cohesion, the Deputy Governor noted that the return process is intended to build bridges of trust and foster peaceful coexistence among the region’s inhabitants. He referenced a recent visit by a delegation of displaced persons from Al-Hasakah to their original areas as a positive step toward restoring community trust and communication.
However, al-Hilali was firm in his rejection of the violence that has occurred, citing instances of public property damage and attacks against state institutions. He stressed that such institutions, along with national symbols, represent the sacrifices of the Syrian people and must be protected. The official confirmed that the relevant authorities have already initiated legal proceedings, with several individuals involved in inciting the unrest now in custody. He warned that there would be no leniency for those attempting to disturb public order or incite sectarian or social friction.
Looking forward, al-Hilali reaffirmed the state’s presence and its commitment to the security and unity of Al-Hasakah. He concluded by reiterating that the administration will continue to strengthen its institutional presence in the region to uphold the rule of law and ensure that those who wish to return to their homes can do so safely and securely.
