Temperatures Drop Across Syria as Seasonal Weather Patterns Shift
Meteorological conditions across Syria are undergoing a slight transition, with temperatures trending downward to settle marginally below their seasonal averages for the majority of the country. According to the National Meteorological Center, this shift is currently affecting most regions, with the notable exception of the eastern governorates, where temperatures remain slightly above the typical seasonal baseline.
For the current period, the prevailing weather is characterized as typical summer conditions, transitioning toward relatively hot in the eastern areas. The sky remains generally clear to partly cloudy. However, localized atmospheric instability continues to provide potential for scattered showers in specific geographic zones, particularly along the coast, in parts of the northwestern Qalamoun region, and in the southwestern territories. Meanwhile, the eastern regions, the Al-Jazeera area, and the Badia are experiencing dusty and hazy conditions, reflecting the active nature of the current air mass.
As daylight fades, the atmosphere shifts to a more moderate state, though it turns cool in the higher mountain elevations. Elevated humidity levels are being reported across the western and southern parts of the country. Authorities have issued advisories regarding the potential formation of light fog during the late night and early morning hours, particularly affecting areas in the central and southern regions, as well as the Qalamoun vicinity.
Wind patterns are currently defined as westerly to southwesterly, maintaining a moderate intensity. However, residents are advised to expect active wind gusts, with speeds forecasted to exceed 65 kilometers per hour during the afternoon, especially in the central and southern regions and along the mountainous coastal stretches. These winds are expected to stir up dust and sand, particularly in the interior provinces. Marine conditions are reported as calm to moderately turbulent, with typical wave heights for this time of year.
Temperature fluctuations across the governorates reflect these regional variations. Damascus is recording a range of 17 to 36 degrees Celsius, while the Qalamoun region in Rif Dimashq remains cooler, between 15 and 29 degrees. Coastal cities such as Latakia and Tartus show consistent temperatures between 24 and 31 degrees. In contrast, the eastern regions continue to see the highest thermal readings, with Deir ez-Zor reaching up to 42 degrees, Al-Hasakah 40 degrees, and Raqqa 39 degrees. Central and southern hubs, including Homs, Hama, and Daraa, show a moderate range varying from 31 to 34 degrees, demonstrating the broader geographical diversity of the national climate.
