Road Rehabilitation Project Enters Second Phase in Daraya

The Rif Dimashq Governorate, in coordination with the Daraya municipality, has commenced the second phase of a major road rehabilitation and paving project. This initiative is part of the “Our Countryside is More Beautiful” campaign, which aims to enhance public services and improve the urban appearance of the governorate’s various regions.
Khaled Khashini, a member of the Daraya Municipal Executive Office, stated that the current rehabilitation efforts cover a stretch from the Martyrs’ Roundabout to the Four Seasons area. According to Khashini, the road section targeted in this phase spans approximately six kilometers, with a width ranging from 8 to 10 meters, and reaching up to 12 meters in certain locations. These upgrades are expected to significantly facilitate traffic flow and reduce transportation challenges for local residents.
Regarding the project’s implementation, Khashini explained that the work is being carried out in sequential stages. The first phase focused on maintenance for sewage, water, and electricity networks, as well as the rehabilitation of a 3,200-meter segment extending from the Four Seasons area toward the railway line. The current second phase focuses on the section between the railway and the Martyrs’ Roundabout, with technical projections indicating completion by next Saturday.
In addition to these primary efforts, the governorate and the municipality have parallel infrastructure plans for Daraya. These include the rehabilitation of Al-Wahda Street, stretching 500 meters from the Farid Al-Laham intersection to the Corniche, and the 300-meter Jawharat al-Ghouta road. Work is also ongoing to renovate the 500-meter road connecting the Al-Sakhra neighborhood to the Great Mosque.
The initiative has been well-received by the city’s residents. Mohamed Adib, a local resident, noted the positive impact of these improvements on general hygiene and vehicle traffic. He also highlighted the importance of these upgrades in alleviating daily burdens for the community, particularly by making it easier for children to travel to their schools under better conditions.
The project is part of the broader “Our Countryside is More Beautiful” campaign launched by the Rif Dimashq Governorate. The campaign encompasses a series of developmental, service-oriented, and environmental initiatives aimed at upgrading essential infrastructure across the governorate’s cities and towns to improve public services and achieve a qualitative shift in the urban landscape.
