Damascus Hosts 6th Forum on Contemporary Syrian Studies

The sixth annual Forum for Contemporary Syrian Studies commenced this Saturday in Damascus, organized by the Arab Center for Contemporary Syrian Studies. The event, held at the Seven Gates Hotel, saw the attendance of several members of the Syrian People’s Council, underscoring the institutional significance attributed to the forum’s deliberations at this current juncture.

This year’s forum focuses on a series of core issues intersecting with the future of the Syrian state. The agenda includes a range of scientific sessions and specialized lectures addressing vital topics, most notably the paths for political and constitutional transition. Discussions also encompass mechanisms for rebuilding state institutions and enhancing their efficiency through governance and administrative reform.

A significant portion of the forum is dedicated to economic challenges, with a primary focus on economic recovery strategies and comprehensive reconstruction plans. These topics are considered priorities for the upcoming phase to support the country’s developmental stability. Furthermore, humanitarian and social issues are central to the dialogue; participants are addressing the return of refugees and displaced persons to their areas, as well as the role of civil society and Syrian women in shaping the nation’s future.

From an intellectual and documentary perspective, participants are discussing topics related to transitional justice and collective memory. The objective is to provide scientific insights that contribute to strengthening social cohesion. Additionally, the forum program featured the announcement of the Arab Syrian Center Index, which is expected to serve as a key analytical tool for monitoring Syrian variables.

This session takes place in the context of ongoing research and academic efforts that seek to provide realistic readings of the complex Syrian landscape. It aims to build a common ground between various actors and institutions to address the repercussions of the previous phase and to outline the features of future national policies.
