Syria Records 277 Occupational Injuries and Diseases in Early 2026

The General Organization for Social Insurance in Syria has announced that 277 cases of work-related injuries and occupational diseases have been recorded since the beginning of 2026. According to the organization’s latest data, this total comprises 247 workplace injuries and 30 cases of occupational diseases documented across various Syrian governorates.
The organization identified Rif Dimashq as the governorate with the highest number of work-related injuries. Officials attributed this concentration to the significant expansion of economic activities and the high density of industrial facilities and factories operating within the region.
In a statement issued via its official Telegram channel, the organization affirmed that it is actively managing all cases related to occupational injuries and illnesses in accordance with established legal and procedural frameworks. It noted that work is currently underway to finalize specific files that require additional medical reports, radiological examinations, or further documentation from competent health authorities. These steps are deemed essential to ensure the accurate determination of disability percentages and the subsequent calculation of financial entitlements.
Regarding the management of these cases, the organization outlined that procedures commence immediately following an incident by registering the case with the specialized injury department. Inspectors from the occupational health and safety division then verify the circumstances surrounding the accident. This coverage extends to injuries occurring during the course of work or while commuting between the workplace and home, provided the employee adheres to the designated route without deviation. Once all required documentation is submitted and a final decision on the disability rating is issued, the organization disburses the appropriate financial benefits, whether in the form of pensions or financial compensation, following a review by the financial oversight body.
Furthermore, the organization emphasized the importance of fostering a culture of prevention in work environments. It underscored the continuation of awareness and educational programs conducted by its occupational health and safety directorates across various governorate branches. These initiatives include regular inspection tours aimed at raising awareness among both employers and workers regarding the necessity of utilizing protective equipment and adhering to professional safety requirements to mitigate the risks of work-related injuries and diseases.
This ongoing activity is part of the General Organization for Social Insurance’s broader commitment to providing social protection for insured workers. These efforts aim to cover medical treatment expenses and guarantee financial rights based on the nature of each case and the resulting disability percentage, with a continued focus on strengthening regulatory and educational roles across all facilities to ensure safer working environments.
