Syrian Science Olympiad 2026-2027 Phase One Testing Commences

The first phase of testing for the Syrian Science Olympiad for the 2026-2027 academic year officially commenced this Saturday. The exams are being held across 12 testing centers distributed throughout 12 different Syrian provinces, drawing a total of 3,477 students eager to demonstrate their academic excellence and scientific aptitude in specialized fields.
This year’s competition encompasses six key scientific disciplines: mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and informatics. Notably, nuclear science has been introduced as a new category this year. This addition reflects the ongoing efforts of the Commission for Excellence and Creativity to broaden the scope of scientific subjects available to students, ensuring that the Olympiad remains aligned with contemporary scientific and technological advancements.
Participation in this year’s Olympiad has seen a significant surge, with the number of registered students increasing by 26 percent compared to the previous year. This growth highlights a heightened level of engagement and interest among Syrian youth in pursuing competitive academic excellence.
The Commission for Excellence and Creativity previously announced the opening of registration on August 18 for students who successfully completed the basic education certificate for the 2025-2026 academic year. This initiative is designed to attract talented young individuals to join the National Center for Distinguished Students. By providing specialized training and guidance, the program aims to prepare these students for the challenges of the Syrian Science Olympiad for the 2026-2027 season, ultimately working toward the development of a future generation of researchers and scientists across various disciplines.
These initial examinations represent the first step in a series of rigorous phases that participants will undergo. Through this multi-stage process, the Commission seeks to identify top scientific talent, nurture their technical skills, and provide the necessary support for students to represent the country in both national and international scientific forums. Such efforts are intended to strengthen the overall educational and research infrastructure within Syria.
