FAO Highlights Syrian Agricultural and Food Heritage in Rome

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) office in the Syrian Arab Republic recently participated in the global exhibition “From Seed to Food,” held in the Italian capital, Rome.
The event was attended by the Permanent Representative of Syria to the UN agencies in Rome, Ambassador Hussein Al-Sabbagh. During the exhibition, Ambassador Al-Sabbagh commended the FAO office for its efforts in highlighting Syrian products. He emphasized the importance of such international participation in showcasing the long-standing agricultural and food heritage for which Syria is known on the global stage.
Syria’s participation in the global exhibition aimed to spotlight the vast diversity of its crops and agricultural products. Furthermore, the event served as an important platform for promoting the nation’s agricultural and food identity. This initiative aligns with broader efforts to underscore the importance of supporting Syrian farmers and strengthening the country’s food security pillars, in accordance with the objectives of sustainable development.
The exhibition provided an opportunity to display examples of Syria’s food heritage. The discussions at the event highlighted the role of agriculture as a foundational pillar of the national economy and stressed the necessity of increasing investment in this vital sector. Such investment is essential to ensuring the resilience of the agricultural industry against current challenges.
Syria’s presence at international forums focused on food and agriculture is part of a broader strategy to enhance cooperation with international organizations. By expanding the scope of technical coordination, Syria seeks to serve the interests of local agricultural production and contribute to the long-term sustainability of its food resources.
