Hama Legal Seminar Focuses on Judiciary and Bar Cooperation

The Hama judiciary, in cooperation with the local branch of the Lawyers Syndicate, has hosted a legal seminar titled “The Complementary Relationship Between the Two Wings of Justice.” The event aimed to strengthen professional cooperation between judges and lawyers to ensure the efficient operation of the judicial system and the protection of litigants’ rights.
The seminar addressed the operational challenges faced by both judges and lawyers during their work. Participants focused on how this professional synergy is essential for bolstering public trust in judicial institutions and upholding the rule of law. A significant portion of the discussion centered on the necessity of combating corruption within the judicial sector. Speakers emphasized the importance of strictly applying existing laws to address professional misconduct—including bribery—among judges, lawyers, and sector personnel.
Mohammad Ahmad Al-Naasan, the Public Prosecutor in Hama, highlighted that the integration between the “two wings of justice” is a foundational pillar for supporting those seeking redress and ensuring the integrity of legal proceedings. During his address, Al-Naasan announced that the Hama judiciary is moving toward the automation of Sharia courts in the governorate. He noted that technical preparations are currently being finalized for the launch of an electronic application designed to streamline judicial services for citizens.
Once operational, the application will allow residents to submit documentation related to marriage, lineage, and ongoing lawsuits. It will also provide a feature for booking appointments with Sharia courts, a step intended to reduce processing times and enhance the quality of public services.
Participants in the seminar called for more frequent dialogue sessions between judges and lawyers to facilitate broader discussions on various legal and practical issues. Lawyer Osama Bitar stressed that such meetings are vital for fostering the professional coordination necessary to serve the interests of justice.
Lawyer Asmaa Al-Sayel underscored the role of professional ethics in safeguarding the legal sector, urging all practitioners to reject corrupt practices. She further advocated for providing trainee lawyers with greater opportunities to participate in legal events and seminars, arguing that such engagement is crucial for refining the skills of young professionals and preparing them to contribute effectively to the development of the Syrian judicial system and the strengthening of the rule of law.
