Syrian Civil Defense Teams Respond to Flooding in Idlib

Syrian Civil Defense teams launched an emergency response today, Friday, following heavy rainfall across Idlib province. The intense precipitation resulted in significant flooding and the blockage of several vital roads throughout the region.

The Idlib Media Directorate stated that the teams conducted a comprehensive operation in affected areas to ensure the safety of civilians. Urgent fieldwork was concentrated in the western Idlib towns of Jisr al-Shughur and Darkush, where personnel worked to clear debris-blocked roads and restore traffic flow.

Simultaneously, the province’s Emergency and Disaster Management Directorate reported that ground teams were active in Idlib city, Salqin, and the village of Musaybin. Efforts focused on removing stones and sediment washed onto public roads by rainwater, as well as clearing water drainage systems. These actions were taken to ensure proper water flow and prevent the accumulation of floods that could endanger residents and their property.

This response comes as the region experiences a period of atmospheric instability, characterized by heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and hail, with the possibility of strong downbursts.

The Early Warning and Preparedness Department under the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management issued warnings to citizens, advising them to stay away from valleys and low-lying areas during the heavy downpours. Residents were further urged to avoid traveling on roads submerged by water or covered in hail to ensure their personal safety.

In a related context, authorities issued a warning to fishermen and boat owners, advising them against engaging in maritime activities under the current weather conditions. They emphasized the need for extreme caution due to the potential for waterspouts resulting from the severe weather fluctuations currently affecting the region.
