The city of Latakia is currently undergoing intensive preparations to host the upcoming UAE President Cup for Purebred Arabian Horses. The international sporting event is scheduled to take place at the Sports City racecourse on October 9 and 10.
Efforts are currently led by the Latakia Equestrian Club, which is working to finalize all necessary technical and logistical arrangements for the event. Firas Najm, head of the Latakia Equestrian Club’s board of directors, announced that preparations for both the indoor and outdoor tracks have reached an advanced stage, with a 90 percent completion rate reported. Najm confirmed that work is ongoing to apply the final touches to the venue to ensure the grounds are fully prepared to welcome both participants and spectators ahead of the opening date.
The festival is a prestigious international event hosted annually in various countries, with Syria serving as the nineteenth stop on this year’s tour. The competition is set to span two days of racing. The first day will feature 10 races involving approximately 160 horses, while the second day will include 5 races with an estimated 90 to 100 horses participating.
Syria’s hosting of the 33rd edition of the festival is aimed at promoting the sport of equestrianism and highlighting the significance of purebred Arabian horses. Furthermore, the event provides an opportunity for the Syrian public to experience international competition firsthand. Beyond the sporting aspect, the festival emphasizes the importance of cultural and athletic exchange. Accompanied by various side events, the festival expects a significant regional and international presence, which is set to draw further attention to the sporting landscape within the Latakia Governorate.
