Syria Hosts Nationwide Cultural and Educational Events

On Tuesday, September 29, 2026, a series of cultural, scientific, and social activities took place across several Syrian provinces, organized by cultural centers and relevant authorities as part of ongoing efforts to bolster the country’s cultural and educational landscape.

In the capital, Damascus, events were varied. The Kafr Sousa Cultural Center hosted courses on Arabic grammar, while the Mezze district held activities to support youth with hearing impairments in observance of the International Day of Sign Languages. Furthermore, the National Library hosted a scientific symposium exploring the history of Syrian handicrafts, featuring prominent researchers. Other sessions in the capital focused on the implications of artificial intelligence in medical professions, the role of law in combating drug addiction, and the architectural history of Damascus. In Rif Dimashq, initiatives in Douma focused on raising awareness about the dangers of narcotics, while Ashrafiyah Sahnaya hosted film screenings.

In Homs, the cultural agenda included a medical lecture regarding Duchenne muscular dystrophy and an interactive literary meeting held at the Arab Writers Union hall. In Tartus, activities included recreational events for children and a specialized medical seminar on childhood malnutrition in Safita, complemented by a poetry evening at the Arab Writers Union. In Latakia, specifically in Jableh and Ain al-Sharqiya, activities for children focused on reading, music, and botanical exploration.

Intellectual life was highlighted in Aleppo through panel discussions on humanities, historical lectures concerning the city, and film screenings at the Zahraa Cinema. In Deir ez-Zor, activities ranged from sports workshops and a documentary exhibition at the National Museum to awareness lectures in Mohassan, al-Quriyah, and the city of Deir ez-Zor, which addressed topics such as identity, educational outreach, and traffic safety. The program concluded in Raqqa with a lecture on the art of dialogue held in Ain Issa.

These activities, held across diverse regions, reflect the ongoing efforts of Syrian cultural institutions to engage with contemporary scientific, social, and educational issues, while providing platforms for public discussion and community awareness.
