Autumn Begins in Syria: Temperatures Set to Drop Gradually

Syria entered the autumn season astronomically today, Wednesday, coinciding with the autumn equinox. This celestial phenomenon occurred at 3:05 AM Damascus time.

The Syrian National Center for Meteorology explained that the autumn equinox is caused by the sun’s rays being perpendicular to the equator. This marks the transition of the sun in its apparent path from the Northern Hemisphere to the Southern Hemisphere. According to the center, this day features specific astronomical characteristics; the sun rises at the true east point and sets at the true west point, making it an ideal time to determine directions accurately.

Regarding the length of day and night, the center noted that while the astronomical concept suggests an equal length of day and night on the day of the equinox, the actual equality in Syria will occur this coming Saturday. This delay is due to the time differences between astronomical calculations and the actual timing of sunrise and sunset in the region.

With the arrival of autumn, residents in Syria and across the Northern Hemisphere have begun to notice a gradual increase in the number of minutes of night at the expense of daylight hours. This shift will directly impact weather conditions, with temperatures expected to see a gradual decline over the coming weeks.

As Syrians prepare for the autumn season, the National Center for Meteorology has cautioned that the region may still be affected by sporadic heatwaves. This is particularly likely during the first phase of the autumn season, which spans approximately 90 days and continues until the arrival of winter on December 21.

These astronomical changes are part of the natural cycle of the seasons. Specialists at the Syrian National Center for Meteorology are monitoring these shifts to provide necessary updates regarding weather conditions and their expected impact on the various Syrian governorates throughout the upcoming transitional phase.
