Israeli Shelling Strikes Al-Yarmouk Basin in Rural Daraa

Villages in the Al-Yarmouk Basin of western rural Daraa were hit by fresh Israeli military strikes on Monday. The artillery bombardment targeted several populated areas, resulting in significant material damage to civilian property and livestock.

Local sources reported that artillery shells impacted the surroundings of Abidin, Maariya, and Al-Ardah villages. Approximately seven shells landed near a goat pen, killing 15 animals. This loss serves as a severe blow to the local residents, who are already struggling under difficult living conditions.

The strikes continued from the early hours of the morning, expanding to include the Abidin and Al-Raqad valleys. The bombardment also targeted the outskirts of Jomla village within the Al-Yarmouk Basin. Furthermore, sources indicated that Israeli forces opened machine-gun fire from a position near the 1974 disengagement line, directing it toward the outskirts of the town of Abidin.

These developments occur amidst ongoing Israeli violations of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement. These actions include recurring incursions into southern Syrian territories, raids on civilian homes, land clearing operations, and repeated artillery attacks. Such practices have continuously exacerbated the suffering of local residents and caused persistent damage to their private property.

In the same context, Damascus has reiterated its demand for an end to the Israeli presence on Syrian territory. Authorities have emphasized that all measures taken by the occupying forces are null and void, carrying no legal weight under the principles of international law. Syria has also called upon the international community to fulfill its responsibilities by pressuring the Israeli side to commit to a full withdrawal from southern regions, ensure respect for Syrian sovereignty, and halt these attacks that target civilians and their livelihoods.
