Raqqa Education Directorate Produces 5,000 New School Desks

As part of ongoing efforts to bolster the educational sector in Raqqa, the technical workshops of the Governorate’s Education Directorate have completed the production of 5,000 new school desks. This initiative aims to address the growing needs of local schools and ensure a suitable learning environment for students.

In addition to the new production, the technical teams have successfully refurbished 1,200 desks that were in need of repair. These rehabilitation efforts utilized existing metal frames found within the schools, while strictly adhering to the technical specifications and dimensions mandated by the Ministry of Education.

Abdul Salam, head of the Vocational and Technical Education Department at the Directorate, noted that the work was completed despite significant logistical and field challenges. Key obstacles include a shortage of specialized personnel, frequent power outages that disrupt the pace of production, and a lack of necessary equipment and machinery for manufacturing and repair operations.

Furthermore, the limited availability of transport vehicles to move desks between workshops and schools has hindered the speed of operations. To mitigate this, the Directorate collaborated with the Finance Directorate in Raqqa to secure a truck for transporting desks during the examination period. Efforts are currently underway to secure a dedicated alternative vehicle to ensure the sustainability of logistics and technical services provided to schools.

These initiatives are part of a broader strategy adopted by the Ministry of Education to improve school infrastructure and provide essential requirements, particularly in areas requiring extensive restoration and outfitting. Previously, in March, schools in the governorate received an additional 1,800 desks, highlighting the consistent commitment to providing the necessary equipment to facilitate the educational process across Raqqa’s schools.
