Search Operations Underway for Missing Fisherman off Tartus Coast

Rescue teams from the Tartus Governorate’s Emergency and Disaster Management Directorate, in cooperation with the Syrian Coast Guard and marine rescue units, are conducting an intensive search operation for a fisherman who went missing at sea.

The fisherman reportedly disappeared while off the coast of the Golden Sands beach area. According to Abdel Moneim Sateef, the director of the Emergency and Disaster Management Directorate in Tartus, local authorities received an emergency report regarding the disappearance. Specialized rescue teams were dispatched to the location immediately upon receiving the call.

Sateef stated that field search and sweep operations commenced as soon as the alert was received. The ongoing operation involves specialized marine rescue units conducting broad, systematic searches of the maritime area surrounding the site of the disappearance. The objective of these operations is to ensure comprehensive coverage of all potential water areas where the missing person might be located.

Field efforts are continuing without interruption, with current operations concentrated on intensifying the sweep in the immediate vicinity of the disappearance. The initiative is being managed through close coordination between the Civil Defense and the Coast Guard. Sateef confirmed that the search teams will remain active until the fisherman is found or further evidence regarding his status is uncovered.

This incident is part of the ongoing responsibilities carried out by the Tartus Emergency Directorate in collaboration with relevant maritime safety authorities. These efforts are particularly focused on addressing the various risks that those working in the fishing industry may face while operating in Syrian waters.
