Omran: Intercem 2026 Participation Boosts Syrian Cement Sector

The General Organization for Cement and Building Materials (Omran) has highlighted the strategic importance of its recent participation in the Intercem 2026 international conference, which concluded in Istanbul. According to Mahmoud Fadila, Director General of Omran, the move is a vital step toward supporting investment in the Syrian cement sector and advancing national industrial capabilities to improve production and expand regional and global market presence.
Fadila stated that the company’s involvement in this year’s event marked a significant shift in objectives. The organization has progressed from merely presenting ideas and potential investment opportunities to actively establishing concrete investment projects and contracts. This transition serves to demonstrate the sector’s readiness and growth potential to international investors. The conference, which brought together over 500 senior executives, producers, and traders from 50 countries, provided a critical platform for networking and engaging decision-makers regarding the opportunities available within the Syrian market.
Technically, the participation was essential for identifying modern technologies suitable for implementation in Syria, particularly as the nation focuses on industrial reconstruction. Fadila emphasized that the global trends discussed at the conference align with Syria’s current priorities, including increasing production efficiency, reducing energy consumption, achieving digital transformation, automating factory operations, and minimizing environmental impact and carbon emissions.
Furthermore, the conference agenda included discussions on utilizing alternative cement materials, reducing the clinker factor, and adopting alternative fuels. These topics are considered vital for the ongoing development of local infrastructure. The Syrian delegation also explored international best practices in the international trade of clinker and cement, as well as advancements in transportation and logistics, all of which are expected to gain importance in the coming period.
Fadila concluded by noting that Intercem served as a genuine platform for establishing cooperation and partnerships with specialized institutions and companies. Moving beyond a simple forum for information exchange, the event provided an opportunity to build long-term business relationships that will benefit the Syrian economy and the broader building materials sector.
