Damascus Health Directorate Launches ‘Let’s Be a Balsam’ Campaign
The Damascus Health Directorate announced on Thursday the launch of a new initiative titled “Let’s Be a Balsam, Damascus,” aimed at bolstering the public health sector and enhancing the capacity of hospitals to provide essential medical services to citizens. The campaign was formally introduced during a press conference held at the Ibn al-Nafis Medical Complex, attended by representatives from the health sector and community partners.
The primary objective of the campaign is to mobilize efforts to secure critical requirements for public hospitals. This includes the acquisition of modern medical equipment and devices, as well as providing support for necessary maintenance and renovation of healthcare infrastructure and facilities. By strengthening the contributions of supporting entities, the initiative seeks to improve the standard of medical care available to the public.
During his address at the launch event, the Director of Damascus Health, Wael Dagmash, underscored the urgent need for national cooperation to rehabilitate and equip government-run hospitals. Dagmash explained that the health sector is currently facing significant challenges stemming from years of heavy operational use. He noted that the aging of medical equipment, much of which has become worn out, combined with the ongoing need for maintenance and infrastructure repair, has resulted in a volume of requirements that currently exceeds the resources available to the directorate.
Emphasizing the tangible impact this campaign could have on patient care, Dagmash noted that the provision of any new medical device contributes directly to more accurate diagnostic capabilities. He highlighted that every additional resuscitation device represents a critical opportunity to save a life, while the renovation of hospital wards helps create a more suitable and effective treatment environment. The director called for a spirit of partnership, asserting that every contribution—regardless of size or type—ultimately serves the patient and ensures that quality healthcare reaches those who need it most.
This initiative is part of a broader government effort to engage the local community and various supporting bodies in enhancing the efficiency of the health sector. By working to overcome the obstacles currently faced by public medical institutions, the project aims to ensure the continued delivery of essential medical services to the residents of Damascus.
