Registration Process Underway for National Defense Science University
Recruitment directorates and offices under the Syrian Ministry of Defense have begun reviewing documentation and registering students applying for the National Defense Science University. This process serves as a preliminary step before referring candidates to medical examinations and subsequent testing, completing the admission requirements for the university, which was established by presidential decree last July.
Ali Al-Nassan, Director of the Damascus Recruitment Directorate, explained that the review process is being conducted according to pre-scheduled, organized appointments to ensure procedures run smoothly and to prevent overcrowding. The evaluation includes verifying admission criteria such as academic averages, age, the year the secondary school certificate was obtained, and a thorough audit of identification documents and personal data. Furthermore, physical measurements, including height and weight, are taken to ensure applicants are suitable for military service, followed by electronic data entry, photography, fingerprinting, and the scheduling of medical and military interviews.
To facilitate these procedures, the Recruitment and Mobilization Administration has announced a temporary suspension of volunteer applications for the Syrian Arab Army across all governorates. This measure is intended to focus efforts and resources on the registration process for the National Defense Science University.
Prospective students have expressed their ambitions regarding the university and the specialized opportunities it offers. Student Yazan Jawhar highlighted his desire to pursue niche fields such as informatics or aeronautical engineering. Similarly, student Aref Nassar noted his intention to apply to the Faculty of Administrative and Human Sciences, expressing a desire to contribute to the development of national state institutions. Student Abdullah Nahlawi emphasized the importance of informatics as a discipline to keep pace with rapid technological advancements.
The National Defense Science University, headquartered in Damascus, operates as an independent entity with financial and administrative autonomy. It encompasses a broad range of military educational institutions, including the Higher Military Academy—comprising the National Defense College, the Higher War College, and the Command and Staff College—as well as military colleges for ground, air, and naval forces. The university also incorporates the Faculty of Human and Administrative Sciences, the Higher Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology, and various military technical institutes. According to announcements made earlier this month, the recruitment offices will continue reviewing applications until September 17.
