Damascus Seminar Focuses on Atomic Energy Quality and Safety Standards
The Syrian Atomic Energy Commission (SAEC) hosted a specialized scientific seminar at its headquarters in Damascus, titled “Integrated Quality Management and Ensuring Safety and Security in Syrian Atomic Energy Commission Facilities.” This event aligns with the commission’s ongoing initiatives to enhance its academic and regulatory work environment while strengthening administrative systems across all its facilities.
Held in the administrative building’s auditorium, the seminar featured a series of specialized lectures. These sessions focused on mechanisms for implementing quality assurance in accordance with the international standard ISO 17025:2017. Furthermore, participants discussed strategies for integrating quality, safety, and nuclear security standards to ensure full compliance with the requirements set by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The program also addressed the critical importance of occupational safety standards and risk management systems. Presentations highlighted the frameworks established by the ISO 45001 and ISO 31000 standards, detailing how these systems can be effectively integrated into the commission’s daily operations.
SAEC officials emphasized that these efforts are designed to increase the efficiency of research and scientific activities through the application of international safety benchmarks. The commission noted that these initiatives reflect its commitment to developing its administrative and regulatory infrastructure. This scientific activity serves as a follow-up to workshops held by the commission in mid-August, which focused on the selection and approval of future scientific research projects.
These measures are part of the commission’s broader national strategy to reinforce its role as a leading institution in nuclear science and peaceful applications.
