Syria and Poland Hold First Political Consultations in Damascus
The Syrian capital, Damascus, hosted the first round of political consultations between the Syrian Arab Republic and the Republic of Poland on Sunday. The meeting, which marks a inaugural diplomatic engagement of its kind between the two nations, aimed to explore prospects for bilateral cooperation and strengthen overall relations.
The Syrian delegation was led by Sally Shobat, Director of the European Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates. The Polish delegation was headed by Wojciech Zajączkowski, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Middle Eastern, African, and Latin American affairs.
Also participating in the Polish delegation were Justyna Porazińska, Director of the Levant and Arab Countries Division in the Polish Foreign Ministry’s Middle East and North Africa Department, and Robert Rokicki, Chargé d’Affaires of the Polish Embassy in Damascus.
During the discussions, both sides reviewed the current state of bilateral relations and examined various methods to advance and activate cooperation across multiple sectors to serve the shared interests of the Syrian and Polish people. The dialogue also covered a range of regional and international political issues, with both delegations exchanging views on current developments occurring within the region and on the global stage.
The talks concluded with a mutual agreement on the significance of reinforcing communication channels and maintaining ongoing political coordination and consultation. Both parties emphasized the value of utilizing international platforms and forums to help align their perspectives on issues currently present on the regional and international agenda.
These consultations were held as part of the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates’ ongoing efforts to consolidate relations with European countries. The dialogue underscores the importance of sustained diplomatic engagement to ensure coordination on issues that directly impact Syrian interests within international arenas.
