122 Orphaned Quran Scholars Honored in Northern Aleppo

The Al-Sham Association for Orphan Care held a celebratory ceremony in the village of Turkman Barah, located in the northern countryside of Aleppo, to honor 122 orphaned children who have successfully memorized the entire Holy Quran. The event was organized to highlight the association’s ongoing commitment to educational empowerment and care programs for orphaned children.

The ceremony was attended by the association’s leadership, educational staff, pedagogical supervisors, and the families of the honored children. During the event, the results of the 2026 ‘Spring of Hearts’ Quranic camp were presented, underscoring the vital role that community care programs play in developing the children’s capabilities and fostering their psychological and educational stability.

Mohammad Shandi Al-Rawi, Director General of the Al-Sham Association, emphasized that the celebration is part of a broader, sustained effort in work and education. He stated that the association’s strategic objectives extend beyond basic care and Quranic instruction, aiming instead to refine the children’s characters so they may become active and influential leaders in their communities. Al-Rawi expressed the association’s pride in the students’ success and noted that the mission of the organization is to see these individuals emerge as an elite group capable of serving Syrian society.

Fatima Al-Aboud, the mother of one of the honored students, expressed her deep pride in the accomplishment. She noted that this success was achieved despite the significant challenges the family faced following their displacement from the countryside of Maarat al-Nu’man to the village of Nariman. Al-Aboud remarked, “Despite the immense difficulties I faced as a mother responsible for orphans after losing my husband, the daily dedication to following up on the educational sessions was the cornerstone of my daughters reaching this honorable level and crowning their journey with success.”

Nour Hossam Al-Bakour, one of the students honored for completing the memorization of the Quran, shared her overwhelming joy regarding her achievement. She mentioned that she began her journey at the age of ten and now aspires to continue serving the Holy Quran by teaching it to future generations.

The event concluded with the distribution of certificates and awards to the students. Attendees and supervisors praised the efforts of the Al-Sham Association in providing an appropriate educational and nurturing environment for orphans, which contributes to their integration and preparation as active and productive members of the Syrian community.
