11 Injured in Traffic Accident on Damascus International Airport Road

Eleven people were injured in a traffic accident on the road to Damascus International Airport after a vehicle veered off its course, according to officials in Rif Dimashq.

The incident took place in the area situated between the fourth and fifth bridges. Ahmed Salloum, director of the operations center at the Directorate of Emergency and Disaster Management in Rif Dimashq, stated that Civil Defense teams were dispatched immediately upon receiving reports of the crash.

Upon arrival at the scene, Civil Defense personnel provided first aid to the victims and coordinated their transportation to medical facilities for further treatment. Five of the injured were transported by Civil Defense teams, while ambulances from nearby hospitals managed the transfer of the remaining six individuals.

Following the accident, Salloum issued a renewed call for drivers to strictly adhere to traffic safety regulations. He emphasized the necessity of reducing speed, maintaining a safe distance between vehicles, and remaining vigilant while driving, particularly on major roads that experience high traffic volume.

Salloum further stressed that rigorous compliance with safety guidelines is the primary foundation for reducing traffic accidents and the associated injuries, noting that such measures are vital for protecting the lives and safety of all road users.

This incident occurs during a period in which Civil Defense teams have reported an uptick in traffic accidents over the past few hours. Reports released yesterday, Thursday, indicated that 17 traffic accidents occurred across various regions of the country. Those incidents resulted in one death and 20 injuries, highlighting the growing importance of traffic safety as a key issue concerning the protection of civilians.
