Turkey Boosts Missile Capabilities and Expands Tayfun Family

Turkish defense manufacturer Roketsan has announced ongoing deliveries of the Tayfun ballistic missile to the Turkish Armed Forces, marking a significant step in Ankara’s strategy to enhance its national defense and deterrence capabilities through the development of long-range, locally produced missile systems.

During his attendance at the Teknofest festival in Şanlıurfa, Roketsan General Manager Murat İkinci confirmed that the serial production of the ‘Block-2’ version of the Tayfun missile is proceeding according to a rigorous schedule. The company is committed to ensuring that these units are delivered to the Turkish military within the established timeframes.

İkinci further stated that the company is currently preparing to commence the serial production and delivery of the more advanced ‘Block-3’ version later this year, following the completion of all necessary technical and logistical preparations.

To ensure technical diversity and system refinement, test launches of the Tayfun missile remain active across various regions of Turkey. Current efforts are focused on integrating new capabilities into the Tayfun missile family to enhance its targeting precision, range, and overall technical efficiency. The Tayfun program, which began in late 2022, is categorized as a long-range ballistic missile system. The current iteration boasts a range of approximately 560 kilometers, with active development of new variants ongoing.

Beyond the Tayfun program, İkinci highlighted significant developments in Turkey’s defense exports, noting the successful delivery of the ‘Barbaros’ coastal defense system to Azerbaijan for the first time. The Barbaros system utilizes Turkish-made missiles and is designed to operate either independently or as part of a comprehensive command-and-control network, significantly bolstering the maritime defense capabilities of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces.

Reflecting on the company’s broader performance, İkinci noted that Roketsan’s defense exports have surpassed the targets set for this year. He emphasized that the company’s strategic ambition is to secure a position among the top 50 defense firms globally.
