Syrian Chargé d’Affaires Meets with Diaspora Community in Constanța

Anas Al-Badawi, the Chargé d’Affaires at the Syrian Embassy in Bucharest, held an extensive meeting with members of the Syrian community in the city of Constanța, located in southwest Romania. The event was part of the embassy’s ongoing efforts to enhance communication with Syrian citizens residing abroad and to listen to their aspirations and concerns.

During the meeting, Al-Badawi emphasized the importance of such gatherings in bridging the gap between the embassy and the diaspora. He noted that Constanța is home to more than 1,500 Syrian citizens who contribute to various vital sectors, including medicine, education, maritime navigation, and business.

Al-Badawi explained that the embassy is committed to developing better communication mechanisms and fostering direct dialogue with expatriates. He highlighted that these efforts involve both direct engagement and the utilization of social media, alongside the formation or support of professional bodies and organizations. Specifically, he mentioned the establishment of a student union, a Syrian Doctors Association in Romania, and a Syrian-Romanian Business Council.

Community members in attendance expressed their appreciation for the initiative, noting a significant improvement in the level of interaction between the embassy and the expatriate community. Samir Ahmed Murtada, the owner of a maritime agency, stated that there is a noticeable difference in the accessibility of embassy staff and the effectiveness of the communication channels now established with the Ambassador and Consul.

Attendees also praised the embassy’s vision for organizing periodic events and forums, which they believe will foster greater social and professional cohesion among Syrians in Romania. Dr. Ahmed Hassan Rahmani noted that the proposal presented by the embassy reflects a positive trend toward building a comprehensive and sustainable relationship between the Syrian state and its citizens abroad. This sentiment was echoed by student Ibrahim Deimesh, who highlighted the productive discussions regarding the creation of student and professional clusters aimed at providing academic and career support to Syrian students and professionals.

This visit is part of a series of diplomatic initiatives undertaken by the Syrian Embassy in Bucharest. Previously, the Chargé d’Affaires has held meetings with Romanian authorities responsible for immigration affairs. Additionally, the embassy has hosted Syrian medical professionals to discuss ways to facilitate cooperation and the establishment of the Syrian Doctors Association in Romania, ultimately aiming to serve the interests of the Syrian community and enhance their role within Romanian society.
