Syrian Bakeries Establishment Rehabilitates 159 Facilities
The Syrian Bakeries Establishment has announced the ongoing progress of its strategic plan to modernize the public bakery sector across all Syrian governorates. The initiative aims to bolster national food security while improving the quality of bread provided to citizens.
According to the Director-General of the Establishment, Mohammad Tareq al-Sayadi, comprehensive rehabilitation and modernization efforts have successfully refurbished 159 bakeries since the beginning of liberation operations. These efforts are part of a sustained drive to develop and upgrade the infrastructure of this critical sector.
In an official statement, al-Sayadi noted that work is currently accelerating to finalize the equipment for 74 additional bakeries, preparing them for service as soon as remaining operational stages are completed. This project is a central component of a broader strategy adopted by the Establishment to increase production capacity and enhance service delivery through the provision of modern, upgraded facilities. Statistics indicate that, on average, a bakery is either upgraded or newly established approximately every four days, underscoring the organization’s commitment to expediting development across the country.
In addition to the public sector efforts, al-Sayadi highlighted measures taken to increase market competitiveness and broaden bread availability. The Establishment has granted licenses for 150 new commercial bakeries. This move is intended to integrate the commercial sector into the production process, fostering positive competition, improving the quality of the final product, and meeting the growing demand across various Syrian regions.
These initiatives are part of an intensive work plan announced by the Syrian Bakeries Establishment last July. During the first half of 2026, the sector witnessed the implementation of over 100 rehabilitation projects for public bakeries nationwide. These projects focus on upgrading existing infrastructure and introducing more efficient production technologies, ensuring the continued delivery of services to citizens in accordance with required quality standards.
The Ministry of Economy and Industry has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting these ongoing plans for the development of the bakery sector, viewing it as a cornerstone of Syria’s food security policies. The Ministry continues to prioritize the modernization of existing facilities and the expansion of the network to ensure that local needs are met in all governorates.
