Syria and Turkey Collaborate to Develop Gold Industry

In an effort to organize and advance the precious metals sector in Syria, an official delegation from the General Authority for Precious Metals Management, led by Director General Mosaab Al-Aswad, recently completed a series of high-level meetings in Turkey. The visit was part of the Authority’s strategic initiative to leverage Turkish expertise and established experience within the gold industry.

According to the Ministry of Economy and Industry, the Syrian delegation’s tour included consultations with representatives from the Jewelers Syndicate in Gaziantep and the Gold Complex in Marash. The officials also toured the Kuyumcukent gold complex in Istanbul to examine advanced gold production facilities and modern equipment.

Director General Mosaab Al-Aswad stated that the visit was particularly significant as it focused on establishing mechanisms for future visits by Syrian jewelers to Turkey. These planned exchanges are intended to provide Syrian artisans with direct access to the latest machinery, industrial spare parts, and tools used in the crafting of precious metals. Al-Aswad emphasized that the Authority’s goal is to facilitate the procurement of such equipment from the Turkish market to upgrade the tools and technologies currently utilized in Syrian workshops and factories. This modernization is expected to improve both the quality and efficiency of production within the domestic jewelry sector.

This initiative is a key component of the mandate assigned to the General Authority for Precious Metals Management, which was established in February 2025. The Authority is responsible for regulating and developing the gold sector, with the objective of strengthening its role in the national economy through an institutional framework characterized by financial and administrative independence.

Furthermore, the Authority oversees the gold pricing mechanism in coordination with jeweler associations across various Syrian governorates to ensure market stability and protect the interests of both workers and consumers. These efforts align with the broader Syrian government strategy to modernize industrial and productive sectors by adopting modern technology to foster long-term economic growth.
