Road Maintenance Work Begins on Deir ez-Zor–Al-Mayadin Route

The General Establishment for Road Transport in Deir ez-Zor, in coordination with the Syrian Establishment for Construction and Development, has officially launched maintenance and rehabilitation work on the vital road connecting the provincial capital to the city of Al-Mayadin. This infrastructure project extends toward the city of Al-Bukamal and the Syrian-Iraqi border.

This initiative is part of ongoing government efforts to enhance traffic safety and security on major roads while addressing damage sustained by segments of this strategic transportation axis over the past years.

Abdel Karim Al-Khader, Director of the General Establishment for Road Transport branch in Deir ez-Zor, confirmed that the rehabilitation process is being carried out under an existing contract with the Syrian Establishment for Construction and Development. He emphasized the economic and service-related importance of the road, describing it as a vital artery connecting the governorate to the Iraqi border. This connection makes it a fundamental axis for the movement of transport and trade between the two nations.

Regarding the technical execution of the project, Al-Khader explained that current operations are focused on scraping damaged asphalt layers and replacing them with new surfacing. These efforts are designed to ensure smoother traffic flow and elevate safety standards for all road users.

These maintenance activities are part of the governorate’s annual plan, which aims to improve service delivery and develop infrastructure. Relevant authorities are committed to repairing road networks that suffered damage in previous years to facilitate the movement of citizens and revitalize commercial and service-related activities in the region.

It is expected that these maintenance works will contribute to reducing traffic accidents and facilitating the flow of goods and travelers along this essential route, which connects the Syrian interior to the border with Iraq.
