Regional Workshop in Rif Dimashq Examines Climate Impact on Groundwater

A regional training workshop aimed at evaluating the impact of climate change on groundwater resources began today in Rif Dimashq. The initiative is the result of a joint collaboration between the Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD), the UNESCO Regional Office in Beirut, and the Syrian Ministry of Agriculture.

Hosted by the National Center for Agricultural Policies in Rif Dimashq, the workshop is scheduled to span four consecutive days. The training program is primarily focused on strengthening the technical and regional capabilities of the participants. Key areas of study include assessing the effects of climate change on groundwater aquifers and developing effective strategies to address these significant environmental challenges.

This event holds particular importance given the regional challenges currently facing water security. Participating experts intend to exchange scientific knowledge, technical expertise, and methodologies that contribute to the sustainable management of groundwater. Furthermore, the workshop aims to identify ways to mitigate the risks posed by shifting climate conditions on essential water resources, aligning with the national priorities of the Syrian Ministry of Agriculture and various institutions dedicated to the water sector.

This event serves as part of an ongoing regional effort to bolster both local and international cooperation in managing climate-related issues. By leveraging the shared expertise of international organizations and national institutions, the workshop seeks to establish a technical knowledge base that will support future strategic planning for water resources throughout the country.
