Over Half a Million Captagon Pills Seized at Jdeidat Yabous Border

Syrian customs and border authorities have announced the successful interception of a significant quantity of narcotics at the Jdeidat Yabous border crossing with Lebanon. The operation is part of ongoing national efforts to combat illicit activities and strengthen border security.

Mazen Alloush, Director of the General Administration for International Relations and Cooperation at the Customs Authority, stated that officials seized over half a million Captagon pills within a 48-hour period. He noted that these consecutive seizures demonstrate the high level of vigilance and operational readiness maintained by customs personnel to prevent the entry of contraband into the country.

Detailing the most recent operation, Alloush explained that customs staff at the Jdeidat Yabous terminal, working in coordination with K9 units, identified and inspected a passenger vehicle arriving from Lebanon. Upon a thorough search of the vehicle, officials discovered 129,000 Captagon pills concealed within the car. The vehicle had been flagged for closer inspection after raising suspicion among the border staff.

This seizure follows another incident at the same crossing less than two days prior, bringing the total number of pills confiscated in the two operations to approximately 524,000. Alloush emphasized that the frequency of these successful interceptions highlights the alertness of border personnel and their ability to detect and counter attempts to exploit transit points for drug trafficking.

Following the seizures, legal procedures were initiated against the individuals involved. The cases have been referred to the competent judicial authorities to conduct further investigations and identify potential connections to broader smuggling networks. Alloush affirmed that the General Administration of Customs and Ports will continue to intensify its inspection and surveillance operations, utilizing all available technical and human resources to secure border crossings and protect the public from the dangers of narcotics.

These efforts are part of a series of successful operations conducted by the Anti-Narcotics Department in coordination with the Customs Authority. Recent months have seen multiple attempts to smuggle narcotics from Lebanon thwarted, including the seizure of 225,000 Captagon pills in late September, as well as the discovery of 210,000 Captagon pills and 62 kilograms of hashish in early October. These successive actions underscore the strict regulatory measures imposed by Syrian security and customs institutions at land border crossings to prevent the entry of prohibited materials and uphold national and community security.
