New Civil Defense Center Opens in Soran, Northern Hama
The Ministry of Emergency Management and Disaster Relief has officially inaugurated a new civil defense center in the town of Soran, located in the northern countryside of Hama. The launch of the facility is part of a broader national strategic initiative aimed at strengthening local infrastructure for public safety, protecting lives and property, and increasing the efficiency of emergency services across the region.
During the opening ceremony, the director of the Civil Defense division under the Ministry, Mounir Mustafa, highlighted that the new center represents a key milestone in the government’s ongoing effort to expand the reach of emergency services throughout the country. According to official data, this expansion brings the total number of operational civil defense centers across Syria to 122, a significant increase from the previous count of 69, which were historically concentrated in the northern regions.
The new facility is equipped to handle a wide range of emergency scenarios, including fire outbreaks, road accidents, and disaster response. Local authorities emphasized that the presence of such a center in Soran is vital, given the region’s specific needs. Residents of Soran and surrounding villages have welcomed the establishment, noting that the center will provide much-needed support for the area’s agricultural community, which frequently faces risks during harvest seasons, and will play a critical role in addressing hazards associated with remnants of war.
Community members expressed that the presence of specialized firefighting and rescue equipment within the town provides a sense of security that was previously lacking. Local resident Yassin al-Hussein stated that the center is a necessary addition for the safety of the rural population, while others, such as Shams al-Din Barjas from the nearby town of Kawkab, expressed hope that this model of decentralized emergency response would continue to be implemented in more rural areas across northern and eastern Syria.
The Ministry of Emergency Management has confirmed that it is continuing its national plan to establish additional response centers in various provinces. The objective is to construct a comprehensive network capable of providing swift, professional assistance to all citizens, regardless of their location, thereby mitigating the impact of accidents and crises. This latest development in Hama reflects the government’s commitment to restoring and improving essential public services as part of its wider recovery and stabilization goals for the region. As the project moves forward, the Ministry intends to evaluate the performance of these new centers to ensure that they are meeting the specific civil defense requirements of each community they serve, with further expansion expected in the coming months.
