MRI Department Opens at Deir ez-Zor National Hospital

Deir ez-Zor Province marked a significant advancement in local medical services on Friday with the official opening of a new MRI department at the Deir ez-Zor National Hospital. The inauguration was attended by Minister of Health Hassan Al-Ghobash and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Bassam Ibrahim, reflecting the state’s ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and provide specialized services locally.
In a press statement, the Minister of Health highlighted that the new MRI unit represents a qualitative addition to the hospital. The device utilizes modern, helium-free technology, which reduces the need for regular maintenance and facilitates continuous operation to better serve patients. The Minister noted that examinations typically take between 20 to 40 minutes, allowing the hospital to accommodate a higher volume of cases each day. The acquisition of this equipment—the second of its kind in the province—was supported by the “Deir al-Ezz” campaign and contributions from the local community.
During his visit to the facility, the Minister also inspected the cardiac catheterization department, commending the consistency and continuity of its operations even during holidays. Furthermore, he announced that the oral and maxillofacial surgery department is prepared for its upcoming opening. To bolster healthcare coverage across rural areas and districts within the province, the Minister disclosed plans to open 12 additional health centers within the next week. He also confirmed that a blood bank in the city of Mayadin is ready for service, with final preparations currently underway for a similar facility in Abu Kamal.
Separately, the Deir ez-Zor National Hospital recently hosted specialized and complex surgical procedures as part of the Syrian-French Medical Conference. French orthopedic surgeon Philippe Valenti reported that he provided advanced surgical services during his visit, addressing complex cases such as brachial plexus palsy in children. He emphasized a commitment to ongoing scientific and training cooperation with local medical staff through lectures and workshops.
The head of the orthopedic department at the National Hospital highlighted the significance of these microsurgical procedures, which are being performed at the hospital for the first time. He described the development as a major step forward in improving the quality of services available to citizens and reducing the financial burden on patients’ families. These initiatives aim to localize complex surgeries in Deir ez-Zor, thereby minimizing the necessity of referring patients to other provinces. The medical conference featured specialized sessions and scientific lectures dedicated to elevating local healthcare standards and refining medical services to meet the region’s specific needs.
