Israeli Forces Incursion in Western Daraa and Escalation

The western countryside of Daraa has witnessed a new incursion by Israeli forces, marking another development in a series of field movements that violate the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement.

Local sources reported that a military unit consisting of three vehicles entered the Wadi al-Raqad area in the Yarmouk Basin on Friday. During the incursion, the forces opened fire toward a shepherd and his children who were present in the area. According to these sources, the action was intended to intimidate the shepherd and his family, forcing them to evacuate the location. The Israeli unit remained in the area for approximately half an hour before withdrawing, with no human injuries reported as a result of the gunfire.

This incident occurred just one day after a similar confrontation involving Israeli forces in the southern countryside of Quneitra. During that military incursion, which took place between the village of Al-Asha and the town of Al-Rafid, another shepherd was subjected to physical assault. That incident also resulted in the death of several of the shepherd’s livestock after they were struck by vehicles.

These recent events represent an escalation within a broader pattern of ongoing violations. These actions include raids on civilian homes, the detention of citizens, the leveling of agricultural land, and artillery attacks in areas near the separation line.

In response to these developments, the Syrian government continues to demand an end to the Israeli presence on Syrian territory. Damascus asserts that all measures and assaults carried out by the occupying forces are null, void, and hold no legal standing under international law. Furthermore, the Syrian government has renewed its call for the international community to fulfill its responsibilities by compelling Israel to withdraw completely from the Syrian south. Damascus maintains that these continuous breaches of the disengagement agreement threaten regional security and stability while obstructing the livelihoods of civilians in border villages and towns.
